A Top company - serving Stamford, CT

HeatShield Fireplace Services Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

How HeatShield Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

HeatShield is a ceramic-cement flue coating we’ve worked with for years. It’s a good product, and when it’s mixed and applied right, it does what it says. But we’ve pulled enough cameras through Stamford chimneys to know exactly where HeatShield jobs go sideways. Here’s what we see most.

  • The original application was too thin. HeatShield’s Cerfractory material needs proper thickness to bond and hold. When an installer rushes or skimps, the coating blisters and flakes within a few seasons. We find this most often in flues serving high-BTU gas fireplaces in Stamford’s older colonials. Our fix: camera the flue, map the failed areas, and recoat properly or replace with a HeatShield-approved application if the tile underneath is still sound.
  • Moisture got behind the coating. Stamford gets real rain, and coastal humidity from the Sound doesn’t help. A cracked crown or missing cap lets water sit against the flue tile, and freeze-thaw cycles pop HeatShield right off the masonry. We see this all over Shippan Point and Cove. The fix isn’t just recoat. We address the water entry first, then restore the flue coating. Recoat without fixing the crown is a waste of your money.
  • Gas fireplace conversion flues that were never properly prepped. When a Stamford homeowner switches from wood to gas, the flue needs cleaning and prep before HeatShield goes in. Skip that prep and the coating grips soot instead of tile. It delaminates. We prep flues properly: clean, inspect, profile the surface, then coat. The coating is only as good as the surface it sticks to.
  • HeatShield applied over third-degree creosote glaze. This is a big one. Wood-burning fireplaces in Stamford that were never swept properly build a hard, shiny creosote glaze. HeatShield won’t bond to glaze. Some contractors coat right over it. We won’t. The glaze comes off first, mechanically, then the coating goes on. It costs a little more up front and lasts years longer.
  • Joints and transitions that were never sealed. HeatShield’s joint-sealing is part of the system, and it’s where we find most gaps. Transitions between flue tile sections, around the smoke shelf, at the damper opening. When joints aren’t sealed, heat and gas escape into the chimney cavity. We seal every transition as part of the job. It’s not optional.

Our HeatShield Fireplace Services Process

  1. 1
You call, a person answers. We ask about your fireplace, what you’re seeing, what you’re smelling, when it started. We book a visit with a real arrival window.
  2. 2
Camera inspection, every time. Wendell or one of his crew runs a camera through the flue and the firebox. You see the footage. No camera, no verdict. The camera footage and a plain-English verdict, every time, no exceptions.
  3. 3
Plain-English findings. We tell you what’s wrong, what caused it, what happens if you leave it, and what it costs to fix. If it can wait, you’ll hear that from us. If it can’t, we’ll tell you exactly why, no drama.
  4. 4
We decide OEM vs. aftermarket together. Sometimes a HeatShield-specific product is required, sometimes a quality aftermarket replacement does everything you need for less. We’ll show you the difference and let you choose.
  5. 5
The repair, clean, and coat. We handle the work, clean as we go, and put things back right. You won’t find soot on your mantel.
  6. 6
Test and guarantee. We verify clear draft, sealed joints, and proper function. Then you get the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it’s not done right, one call brings us back.

What HeatShield Fireplace Services Cost in Stamford

Here are real numbers, not a sales pitch. Prices reflect what we charge in Stamford for common HeatShield work.

HeatShield camera inspection and report $175-$275
Flue cleaning and prep before HeatShield recoat $150-$250
HeatShield spot repair (small delamination) $275-$425

Why Stamford Homeowners Call Top Hat Chimney for HeatShield Work

We’ve been in Stamford chimneys since 1999, back when Wendell Pike was running crews through Fairfield County. That’s a lot of flues. We know HeatShield, and we know the other brands that go into the same fireplaces: DuraFlex, Gelco, Olympia, and the rest. That matters when a band-aid HeatShield fix is actually a liner replacement in disguise, or vice versa. We’ll tell you which one you need, not which one makes us more money.

Every HeatShield job gets the 90-Day Done Right Promise. In writing. If it’s not right, one call brings us back. We’re locally owned and owner-operated, with a published address and license number. Wendell puts his name on the work and runs into you again on Saturday. Ask anyone on your street. People around here know he’d rather tell you the chimney doesn’t need anything than sell you something it doesn’t.
