On the OEM versus aftermarket question: for Famco specifically, we’ll often use a quality aftermarket stainless or formed-concrete crown that matches the original spec, because Famco’s OEM crown pricing can run high for what is essentially a formed concrete slab with a drip edge. But if the original is a Famco combination unit with an integrated spark arrestor or a custom chase pan, we’ll match it OEM so you’re not half-converting the system. Signs Your Famco Crown Repair Is Failing

• Hairline cracks across the crown surface. This is freeze-thaw damage. Water seeps into microscopic fissures, expands when Stamford drops below 32 degrees, and the crack grows a little each winter. It’s the most common thing we see in Shippan Point and Glenbrook homes.
